About Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) meets every Tuesday at 7:45 PM on the first floor of the church extension.

We support marginalised people with rations, medical aid and educational assistance, up to a certain limit. We organise two functions with them during the year:

  1. The Feast of St. Vincent de Paul, celebrated on 27 September.
  2. A Christmas party.

These celebrations include a prayer service, fellowship and games. Each family receives a gift hamper and, at times, some cash. We visit these 15 families to learn about their progress. Our motto is to help them learn to fish. We support those interested in learning tailoring or computing by paying their fees, and try to find jobs for those interested in domestic work. In this way, we help them grow and become independent.

We also visit two homes annually:

  1. A home for the elderly in Kalyan.
  2. A home for people with HIV and leprosy in Trombay.

We support these homes with cash and goods for their maintenance. These activities are made possible by funds from the church and generous donors. At present, we have about 10 members.

Priest in Charge: Fr. Jerome Lobo.

Lay Coordinator: Kamla Desouza.
